Our native plants are selected for their value to local ecosystems, while our Local Ecotype plants take that connection one step further. These plants are grown from seed that our team hand-collects from native plants growing in conservation areas we manage.

Because the seed comes from plants growing in our region, local ecotypes represent locally sourced genetics that are adapted to the environmental conditions of the Mid-Atlantic Piedmont. Growing and planting local ecotypes helps preserve local genetic diversity, support regional wildlife, and strengthen the resilience of native plant communities.

Look for the Local Ecotype label to identify plants available as a local ecotype variety. For some species, you may have the option to purchase either the standard native variety or our locally grown ecotype.
