Job Overview: 

The goal of the EcoAmbassador program is to empower youth leaders to promote principles of environmental stewardship and waste reduction in Howard County communities. This program is supported by funds from the Plastics Reduction and Environmental Protection (PREP) Grant. EcoAmbassadors will be responsible for the development and delivery of one educational event within their community, support Ecoworks’ outreach and tabling activities,  and support the development and implementation of one group clean-up event. EcoAmbassadors will convene in person with the Project Coordinator and their fellow EcoAmbassadors to receive training, to develop ideas and to coordinate the logistical aspects of their events. EcoAmbassadors will also strive to comprehend the mission and operations of Howard EcoWorks as an organization while developing skills and knowledge surrounding the environmental field.

 

Responsibilities & Duties: 

  • Attend and participate in weekly meetings, on Thursdays (estimated 2 hrs per week)

  • Independent work; developing educational projects, community site assessments, etc. (estimated 4 hrs per week)

  • Develop, organize, and implement one educational event within their community

  • Support the development and implementation of one group clean-up event

  • Support Ecoworks’ outreach activities by tabling at 2-3 public events 

  • Complete one or more community assessments evaluating litter quantity and composition

  • Coordinate with local partners including schools and/or local organizations/businesses

Qualifications 

  • Must be 16 years of age, minimum

  • Must be a current or recently graduated student (Spring ‘24) of  a Howard County public or private high school

  • Must have transportation to and from Howard Ecoworks’ office for weekly meetings (9770 Patuxent Woods Dr, Columbia)

  • Can work independently to complete projects

  • Organized and attention to detail

Compensation  

  • $600 stipend ($200/milestone)

    • Milestone 1: Community Assessments

    • Milestone 2: Education Event

    • Milestone 3: Group Cleanup Event

​

Job Timeline:

  • ​This is a summer seasonal position

  • Weekly meetings on Thursdays

  • Start Date: 6/17/24

  • End Date: 8/16/24
