JOB DESCRIPTION: Program Foreman

Full-Time

Supervises: Programs’ Field Crews; Crew Leaders and Crew Members (Uplift & READY Programs)

Job Overview: 

The Program Foreman is responsible for the construction and maintenance of stormwater management and landscaping projects, including conservation landscapes, rain gardens, tree planting projects, etc completed by the Program field teams. Program field teams consist of temporary seasonal hires that are engaged in green career exploration and green job training programs.  The Program Foreman works with the Project Manager, Landscape Foreman, and Operations Team to plan, facilitate, and implement the coordination and logistics of daily work as well as working with the Program Team to incorporate programmatic and training goals in support of individual development. The Program Foreman tracks, records, and reports on crew hours worked as well as, materials, tools/equipment inventory, and metrics for completed projects and training activities. The Program Foreman ensures that high quality projects are produced safely and on time. The Program Foreman coordinates workflow for the crew leaders and crew, providing detailed work plans and daily on-site guidance and support. Also, the Program Foreman communicates production goals to the crew leaders/crew and communicates crew needs to the Program and Operations teams as appropriate. This role ensures that team members have the skills and training to complete assignments safely, correctly, and on time.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Provide and support internally and externally delivered crew training in coordination with the Program Team 

  • Provide oversight on project implementation ensuring crews perform their tasks in a skillful, safe and timely fashion 

  • Plan, execute and assess day to day activities of the crews to ensure adherence to project schedule

  • Support onboarding and offboarding of seasonal crews in coordination with the Program Team and company administration

  • Conduct performance evaluations for direct reports and other supervisory duties such as performance management, personal / professional development, managing incidents, etc.

  • Support coordinating availability and transport of crew members, materials, plants, tools (resources) to job sites and organize resources during project life cycles

  • Check in with Crew Leaders on-site during each day to ensure that crews are meeting goals

  • Oversee clean-up of job sites and proper disposal and storage of materials

  • Support in the creation and lead communication of daily / weekly workplans to the crew(s)

  • Along with the Project Manager, communicates project updates to customers

  • Communicate daily field progress and/or problems to Project Manager

  • Shares responsibility for tool/equipment inventory management with Operations Team

  • Shares responsibility for vehicle inspections/servicing/maintenance with Operations Team

  • Ensures security and cleanliness of Howard EcoWorks physical spaces, property and other materials by implementing daily security routines, e.g. locking up at the end of day, vehicle upkeep, upkeep of barn space, kitchen, shared/common spaces, etc.

  • Monitors weather and ensures conditions are safe to begin daily work for crew leaders, crew, volunteers and others located at project sites

  • Establishes and enforces field-related safety and emergency management policies

  • Assist in construction and maintenance as needed

  • Manage Crew timesheets and time-off requests

 

Qualifications & Requirements:​

  • Must be 21 years of age;

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record;

  • Must be able to drive personal vehicle daily, with mileage reimbursement;

  • Able to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds;

  • Must be dependable;

  • Strong leadership, communications and process improvement skills; 

  • Experience in landscaping or environmental field work, particularly construction and maintenance; 

  • Experience supervising / managing employees and

  • Must be able to safely and effectively operate a truck with a utility trailer.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to obtain DOT medical examiner certification

  • Passion and/or interest in the outdoors

  • Passion for conservation, restoration and environmental issues

  • Flexible with changes in day-to-day tasks

​

Wage: $41,000/yr

​

Job Timeline:

Position is full-time for 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Weekend work opportunities may be available, but are not mandatory.  Work in the field is weather-dependent.  Indoor training and professional development opportunities may be offered on bad-weather days, if possible.
