About the event

Join us for an evening of education and community involvement. Howard EcoWorks is opening its doors for the public to learn more about our programs, services, and how they can be involved in environmental sustainability and conservation. Learn from our knowledgeable and dedicated staff members and our guest speaker, Lauren Hubbard, native plant expert. In addition, this night serves as a job fair for those looking to join our green jobs programs including on-the-spot interviews for the spring UpLift program and information regarding our summer programs.

Location: At the Howard County Non-Profit Collaborative: 9770 Patuxent Woods Drive, Columbia, MD 21046. The training room is on the right side of the lobby.

Time: This event is from 5 pm - 7 pm

Schedule

5 pm - 5:15 pm Arrive, mingle, grab snacks and drinks (provided)

5:15 pm - 5:25 pm: Event Kick Off - Lori Lilly, Executive Director

5:30 pm - 5:50 pm - Services and Opportunities Overview - Andres Ovalle, Conservation and Restoration Director

5:30 pm - 6 pm On the spot interviews for UpLift applicants - Session 1

6 pm - 6:30 pm Lauren Hubbard talks on native plants.

6:30 pm - 7 pm Open floor for Q&A

6:30 pm - 7 pm On the spot interviews will be conducted for UpLift applicants - Session 2

Details

Job Fair:

Our program manager, Campbell Shepard, will be hosting interviews for those applying to UpLift. Learn more about our seasonal crew position and apply here.   Additionally, we will discuss our programs such as READY, EcoAmbassador, and Alternative Spring Break, which are tailored for high school students and young adults under 25.

Education & Talks:

We have an exciting evening planned for the public to learn ways to get involved in sustainable environmental landscaping from our dedicated staff members and founder, Lori Lilly, and Conservation and Restoration Director, Andres Ovalle. We will be exploring how we can build climate-resilient communities, services we offer, and how communities can apply for grants to receive funding for conservation projects.   Guest Speaker: Joining us this evening is Lauren Hubbard, professional landscape designer, owner of Native by Design LLC, and president of the Maryland Native Plant Society. She will discuss native plants and their importance.  During these talks, the public will have opportunities to ask questions to any of our staff members or Lauren on the topics of conservation, native plants, and sustainable practices.   Additionally:

  • Seed Packets & Seed Bombs for sale
  • Additional merchandise such as T-shirts, stickers, and cards
  • Educational content and resources on display.
  • A children's activity table
