JOB DESCRIPTION: UpLift Assistant Crew Leader

Reports to: Crew Leader

Job Overview:

This is a 9-month opportunity to gain experience with environmental restoration work.   Howard EcoWorks also provides training in various soft-skills as well as coaching to give one a leg-up on finding a job in the environmental industry.  The Assistant Crew Leader supports the Landscape Foreman and/or Crew Leader.  In the absence of at least a Crew Leader, the Assistant Crew Leader would take charge of a crew.  As such, an Assistant Crew Leader will participate in leading, supervising, and instructing Crew Members in the construction of rain gardens, conservation landscapes, and other stormwater management practices, as well as leading the crew in performing landscaping maintenance, invasive plant removal, stream cleanup, and more.  Though an Assistant Crew Leader is not expected to handle disciplinary matters, if the situation warrants immediate corrective measures in the absence of a Crew Leader or Landscape Foreman, such as for safety matters, an Assistant Crew Leader may take reasonable action, which may include escalating issues to higher level management.  On a crew, the Assistant Crew Leader is the designated Safety Officer.  When a subset of the crew is deployed for Rent-An-EcoCrew work, the Assistant Crew Leader may be in charge of the work and the Crew Member(s), and will be expected to directly interact with the customers.  The results of what a crew does needs to be on time, on budget, and meet or exceed quality expectations.  The Landscape Foreman, and when applicable, the Crew Leader, ensures that the crew meets those objectives in performing their work; an Assistant Crew Leader has a supporting role in achieving the ends.  An Assistant Crew Leader also does their part to motivate their team and participates in the professional development of the Crew Members.
