TITLE: Marketing and Communications Intern


Reports to: Executive Director

Status: Part-time, Temporary (120 hours in total) 


JOB DESCRIPTION: Howard EcoWorks is hiring a Marketing & Communications Intern to assist in the management of marketing operations under the supervision of the Executive Director. The Marketing & Communications Intern will support the development of content for the website, social media, workforce recruitment efforts, programs, proposals, reports, events, advertisements, press releases, and acquisition of jobs for the company.  The Marketing & Communications Intern collaborates with the staff and EcoWorks Marketing Committee to develop, expand, and maintain marketing channels.  The Marketing & Communications Intern possesses a good understanding of the latest marketing trends and techniques, is enthusiastic, and has excellent communication skills.



  • Support marketing campaign planning and execution.

  • Write copy for social media posts, promotional emails, and other marketing collateral.

  • Assist in the creation of written, video, and image content for marketing channels.

  • Develop and expand content management support for the EcoWorks website.

  • Participate in marketing brainstorming sessions.

  • Measure and report the results of marketing initiatives.

  • Help distribute marketing materials.

  • Help organize marketing events.

  • Manage and update company databases.

  • Assist in marketing and advertising promotional activities (e.g., social media, direct mail, and web).

  • Monitor all social media platforms for trending news, ideas, and feedback.


  • Applied understanding of basic marketing principles and branding.

  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.).

  • Self-starter with ability to work independently.

  • Comfortable with multitasking and working under deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Understanding of website techniques and best practices.

  • Basic photography, image and video editing, and graphic design skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree or currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or a related field.

  • Successful completion of introductory courses in marketing, business, or equivalent.

  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and Mailchimp.

  • Previous experience with the use of Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro) and social media management tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social) a plus.

  • Use of own computer preferred.

  • Own transportation, when needed, with mileage reimbursement at the 2021 federal rate.



  • 120 hours at $12.50/hr over a flexible timeframe, preferably ~10 hours/week for 12 weeks
