PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Howard EcoWorks seeks to create green jobs in Howard County while improving watershed health through the construction and maintenance of stormwater and habitat management projects.  

The HEWmanpower Cohort begins in the Spring and works through the Fall. The Cohort constructs and maintains green stormwater practices on public and private land. Practices include rain gardens, conservation landscapes, bio habitats,  and more! The Cohort receives both industry related and general workforce development skills training as well as exposure to local and regional environmental issues. Upon successful completion of the program, members of the HEWmanpower Cohort will receive 
Chesapeake Bay Professional Landscaper - Associate (CBPL-A) certification and will participate in a networking event where they will have the opportunity to meet with other employers in the green industry to explore further career opportunities.


Job Overview:

The Landscape Foreman is responsible for the construction and maintenance of stormwater management  landscape projects such as rain gardens, conservation landscapes, etc, and insures that projects are completed safely, at a high level of quality and within designated time frame. The Landscaping Foreman coordinates the workflow for and communicates production goals to the crew leaders/crew as well as communicates crew needs to the Landscape Manager. He or she is also responsible for ensuring that team members have the skills and training necessary to complete their assignments correctly and in a timely manner. In addition, the Landscape Foreman is expected to work with operational and administrative staff to plan, facilitate and implement the coordination and logistics of daily work as well as  track, record and report on hours worked, materials, tools and equipment inventory, and metrics for completed projects.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Crew oversight on project implementation and maintenance and ensure crews perform their tasks in a skillful, safe and timely fashion.

  • Communicate daily and weekly project plans to the crew(s)

  • Check in with Crew Leaders during the day to ensure that crews are meeting goals

  • Coordinate with Materials Handler to ensure timely delivery of tools, equipment, plants, and materials to job sites

  • Coordinate with Landscape Manager to ensure organizational objectives are communicated to the crew(s)

  • Read and implement Project Plans, Landscape Designs and Planting Plans

  • Plan, execute and assess day to day activities of the crew to ensure adherence to project schedule

  • Coordinate availability and transport of crew members, materials, tools from storage to job sites

  • Oversee clean up of job sites and proper disposal and storage of materials

  • Communicate progress and problems to Landscape Manager (operational) or Workforce Manager (personnel).

  • Assist in construction and maintenance as needed.


Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Able to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds

  • Must have reliable transportation to initial job site

  • Must be dependable

  • Strong leadership, communications and process improvement skills

  • Experience in landscaping or environmental field work

  • Ability to operate a truck with a utility trailer is desirable

 

This is a full-time, hourly, seasonal position that begins in March and works through November (possibly mid December). Crew Member hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (during the summer, hours shift to 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Weekends and holidays are not scheduled work days.
