Restoring the Environment and Developing Youth (READY) is a program working to create green jobs for young adults (16 to 25 years old) in Howard County while improving watershed health through the construction and maintenance of stormwater and habitat management projects.

The program was formed in 2011 as a result of the economic recession that created difficult employment conditions, particularly for young people.  At the same time, the County had also being required to accelerate the implementation of stormwater management practices to meet State and regional water quality goals.  The partners - Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Howard County and People Acting Together in Howard - came together to form the summer READY program. Now, the Howard County READY program is facilitated by Howard EcoWorks.

READY members are trained in the design and installation of green stormwater practicess such as rain gardens, maintenance of public and private installations, and stormwater assessment techniques. They receive job skills training and are exposed to local and regional environmental issues. This year READY is proud to offer Chesapeake Bay Professional Landscaper - Apprentice (CBPL-A) certification!

READY Crew Leaders instruct, supervise, and lead a crew of 5 Crew Members throughout their daily work activities. These activities include construction of rain gardens and conservation landscapes, maintenance, invasive plant removals, stream cleanups, and more.
